7-Day Great Migration River Crossing Safari in Tanzania

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport, where your safari guide will meet you and transfer you to your hotel in Arusha. This is your first moment to relax after your flight and prepare for the adventure ahead.

Arusha sits at the base of Mount Meru and is often called the gateway to the northern safari circuit. Depending on your arrival time, you can rest at the hotel or explore the town.

After breakfast, drive to Tarangire National Park, famous for its large elephant herds and ancient baobab trees.

The park feels wild and open, with fewer crowds compared to other parks. You’ll enjoy game drives along the Tarangire River where animals gather, especially during dry seasons.

Expect to see elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffalo, and sometimes lions resting under trees. By evening, you head to your lodge for dinner and rest.

Today you drive into Serengeti National Park, one of the most famous wildlife destinations in the world.

As you enter the central Serengeti, the landscape opens into endless golden plains. This area is rich with wildlife all year round, including lions, leopards, elephants, and large herds of wildebeest.

You’ll enjoy an afternoon game drive as you move deeper into the heart of the Serengeti.

After breakfast, you continue your journey north where the Great Migration usually gathers between July and October.

This is where the real tension builds—thousands of wildebeest and zebras waiting near the Mara River, watching carefully before attempting to cross.

You’ll spend the day following migration movements and watching predators like crocodiles and lions that follow the herds.

Today is your full migration experience day. You stay close to the Mara River, where dramatic crossings may happen depending on wildlife movement.

Watching a river crossing is unpredictable—you may wait quietly, then suddenly see thousands of animals rushing into the water in a powerful natural moment.

In the early morning, you also have an optional hot air balloon safari. Floating above the Serengeti at sunrise gives you a completely different view of the migration below.

After a relaxed morning game drive, you begin your journey toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

You pass through changing landscapes—from open plains to highland scenery. Along the way, you may still spot wildlife moving through the Serengeti.

Early in the morning, you descend into the Ngorongoro Crater, one of the most special wildlife places in the world. The drive down the steep crater walls already feels exciting you slowly enter a massive natural bowl filled with life.

Inside the crater, everything feels close and easy to see. It’s one of the few places in Tanzania where you can spot almost all the Big Five in a single game drive, including lions, elephants, buffalo, and the rare black rhino.

The open grasslands, small lakes, and acacia trees create a perfect natural stage where animals live side by side without traveling far.

You will also see large groups of zebras, wildebeest, hippos resting in water pools, and flamingos along the shallow lake edges. Because the crater is enclosed, wildlife sightings feel constant and very rewarding, even in a short time.

Your guide will take you across different areas of the crater floor, from the hippo pool to the open plains where predators often rest after a hunt. Every turn gives you a new scene, making it feel like a natural wildlife showcase.

After a the game drive, you begin the drive up the crater walls and head back to Arusha. The journey out feels calm and reflective, ending your safari with one of the strongest wildlife experiences in Africa.
