Mount Meru Hiking

Upon your arrival at the airport, you will find our company representative waiting. You will recognize him with the special board with your name written on it. You will be transferred directly to your accommodation in Arusha. During the drive, you will learn a lot about our beautiful country.

You will check in at your hotel and have time to rest. Later, you will be shown around Arusha city. You’ll visit the local markets, the Maasai market, the Cultural Heritage Museum and the Arusha City Museum.

After breakfast in the hotel at Arusha, we drive to the Momella Gate. After a short registration at the gate, our walk will begin with a fully-armed ranger escorting us. We will see wild animals including zebras, giraffes, monkeys, antelopes, and often elephants, along the route.

Later, we head to Miriakamba Hut for dinner and overnight.

The walk from Miriakamba Hut to the saddle below Little Meru is a short but steep climb. The walk will take us slowly along the ridge for a spectacular view of the Meru Crater and the impressive Ash Cone.

After a hot lunch at Saddle Hut, we make a short climb to the summit of Little Meru (3,820m) for superb views just before sunset. Dinner and overnight will be at Saddle Hut.

Hiking time: 3-5 hours.

We start early (at around 1:30 am) to climb steeply to Rhino Point (3,800m) and then on to Cobra Point (4,350m). We reach the summit (4,566m) in time for sunrise. There is the possibility to see the peak of Kilimanjaro above the clouds. The final part of the climb is along a spectacular, narrow ridgeline between the sheer inner cliffs and the sloping outer wall of the crater. After a short celebration, we descend to Saddle Hut for lunch, and then proceed to Miriakamba for dinner and overnight.
