3-Day Rwanda Gorilla Trekking Safari

Your Rwanda safari begins with arrival at Kigali International Airport. You will meet your professional driver-guide who will introduce you to Rwanda, often called the “Land of a Thousand Hills.”

Before leaving the city, enjoy a short Kigali city tour. A visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial offers insight into Rwanda’s history and the remarkable journey of healing and reconciliation the country has undergone.

You may also explore local craft markets or art centers where talented Rwandan artists display handmade crafts and colorful paintings.

After the city tour, begin the scenic drive north to Volcanoes National Park. The journey takes about 2–3 hours and passes through beautiful countryside with terraced farms, green hills, and rural villages.

Upon arrival in Musanze, check in to your lodge and relax while enjoying spectacular views of the Virunga volcanoes. In the evening, enjoy dinner and prepare for the exciting gorilla trekking adventure the following day.

Today is the highlight of your Rwanda safari: mountain gorilla trekking.

After an early breakfast, transfer to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters in Kinigi for a briefing from experienced park rangers. During the briefing, you will learn about gorilla behavior, trekking guidelines, and safety rules before being assigned to a specific gorilla family group.

With the guidance of expert trackers, begin your trek through the dense rainforest and bamboo slopes of the Virunga Mountains in search of these incredible primates. The trek may take 2 to 6 hours, depending on where the gorilla family is located.

Once the gorillas are found, you will spend one magical hour observing them as they feed, interact, and care for their young. Watching mountain gorillas in the wild is considered one of the most unforgettable wildlife encounters in the world.

After the trek, return to your lodge for lunch and relaxation.

In the afternoon, you can choose an optional activity such as:

• Visiting the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village

• Exploring the Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund

• Taking a short community walk around Musanze

Enjoy dinner and a peaceful evening surrounded by the beautiful mountain landscape.

After breakfast, enjoy a relaxed morning near the park. If time allows, you may take part in an optional Golden Monkey Trekking experience, where you can observe these playful primates in the bamboo forests of Volcanoes National Park.

Alternatively, you can visit nearby attractions such as the Twin Lakes of Burera and Ruhondo, known for their beautiful scenery and peaceful atmosphere.

Later, begin the drive back to Kigali, enjoying the rolling hills and scenic countryside along the way.

Upon arrival in Kigali, you may stop at Caplaki Craft Market or a local café for souvenirs and refreshments before transferring to Kigali International Airport for your departure flight.
